.PK Domain Name is the domain name space for organizations and individuals in Pakistan. PK domain extensions (e.g., com.pk, net.pk, and more) cover the needs of every Pakistani individual, company, institute, government, and education. You should choose the extension that suits you best.

All generic words are allowed, and there is no documentation needed for domain names for individuals and businesses. While for GOV and EDU there are few rules, and documentation is needed.

All domains that are registered under dot PK must belong to one of the following second-level or third-level domains. Domains are registered for two years, and prices for all extensions are the same.

PKNIC Domain registration policy

Unless the Domain name is not in the list of blocked/ reserved words, you can register any generic name. It will help if you keep the following rules in mind before registering the domain. If rules are not followed and you register an available domain, it will be canceled afterward in review. Please note that all domain name registrations from PKNIC are provisional and subject to review.

length of domain name
The maximum length is 67 characters, including the .pk suffix. There is no minimum character limit for third-level domains (COM.PK, NET.PK, ORG.PK, etc.). It can be as short as z.com.pk. But for second-level domains (domains ending with only .pk), the name should contain at least four characters.

Reserved Words
For second-level domain names, these are reserved words.
a. pk domain cannot begin with COM, NET, ORG, GOV, GOP, GOK, EDU, GOB, GOG, GPK, GOS, GOK, and info or www.
For example, GOP-department.pk, and gov-departments.pk are not valid domains, as these contain GOP or gov in the start.
If the domain contains only four letters, it can’t contain any of the above-reserved words (i.e., PKNIC domain extensions) either at the start or end.

For third-level domains, you cannot use only domain extensions. i.e., net.com.pk is not valid.

Other limitations
PK domains can contain a “-” dash character, but not in the beginning.

PK domains cannot contain two consecutive dashes “–.” As these

Domains under the pk namespace cannot be abusive or profane.

The GOP.PK namespace for Government Punjab, GOB.PK for Balochistan, GKP.PK for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, GOS.PK for Sindh, GOG for Gilgit Baltistan and GOK.PK for Azad Jammu & Kashmir is used.

Under certain circumstances, a GOV.PK can be used for a top-level provincial department unique within the province if the province name is prominent in the domain name (for example, Sindh-Hotriculture.gov.pk, etc.).

When a gov.pk or any provincial domain is registered, it is kept inactive by PKNIC authorities. This step is meant to prevent the misuse of government domain names.

The following documents are required to activate federal or provincial government domains.

Authorization letter signed by the head of the department (This power of attorney letter must be on the original official letterhead)
Copy of CNIC of the authority signing the approval letter
